Something really struck me about Cathay Pacific. Below are pictures of the plastic cutlery for the regular meals and child's meals. I don't know if this is true for all Cathay flights, but on both sectors travelled today (SIN-HKG and HKG-TPE), the cutlery were plastic! How environmentally unfriendly! I'm sure these cutlery will not be washed and re-used by Cathay, but tossed away after one use. :( I certainly hope they are at least recycled.

Unboxing my iPhone 5!
We were very lucky to have been able to get onto Apple's website on the day pre-orders for the iPhone 5 started, and our iPhone 5 arrived on 21 Sep, the day it was released. Yep, buying it online is much more comfortable than having to camp overnight outside an authorized Apple retailer just to get it on the release day. So, just for fun, here's the unboxing of my iPhone 5. :)
Here it is! Arrived just after noon on 21st September.
The iPhone 5 box well-protected by the thick postage box.
And I'm getting closer to seeing what the iPhone 5 looks like in real life!
Here it is! I wonder which Foxconn employee left these finger prints on my screen?!?

Checking In Quickly
If any of you are wondering, yes, I'm still committed to finish blogging about our now not-too-recent holiday in New Zealand. It is taking quite a while and I'm only on Day 6, but yes, I want to finish blogging about it...eventually! Haha!
June passed by rather quickly, probably partly due to DS being home half the time instead of at school. Hand, foot and mouth disease is currently above epidemic levels in Singapore (whatever that means!) and unfortunately, three children in DS' preschool came down with it. We therefore kept DS away from school until there was no evidence of further transmission within PMI (DS' preschool).
I've also spent a bit of time changing the layout of my blog. On the right, there is now a section whereby blog posts are organized according to labels. This makes it easier for readers of my blog to read the posts that they are interested in. I've also re-written the "about me" section to, well, talk about me rather than the reason for starting this blog. Readers who wish to follow my blog can now also subscribed via email at the bottom of the page. This means that whenever I publish a new blog post, readers who have subscribed will have this new post delivered to their email account.
OK, that's all from me for now. I'll be writing again very soon!

Lamborghini Gallardo!
I dropped by United Square a while ago to pick up some groceries when I saw this car in the car park. It's a Lamborghini Gallardo! How often would one see a Lamborghini parked in a crowded car park?

According to Wikipedia, from the time the Gallardo was in production (2003) to 2009, only 9510 have been built. And here's one of them! I wonder how many more Gallardos can be found in Singapore.

By the way, can someone please tell me how to earn obscene amounts of money to stand a chance of affording a luxury car? I'm obviously in the wrong profession now! :P

We're Back in Singapore
After a full year of being away, we're finally back in Singapore. Yes, home sweet home! It has been along year, yet it felt like only yesterday that we were frantically packing to leave for Denver and DD was only 8 weeks old. She's now almost 14 months old.
We arrived back in the evening of 8th Oct and haven't stopped doing stuff. There's so much to do and so little time! The day after we got back, we spent most of the day shopping for a washing machine and stocking up our kitchen with bare essentials from NTUC. Yes, our 5 year old lemon of a washing machine (never, ever, buy a Thomson washing machine!!!), which has been repaired 4 times in 5 years finally died while we were away. We finally settled on a Fisher and Paykel top loader which we got for a good deal at $560. In the evening, we made a trip to the airport to fetch our domestic helper, who had a one year "holiday" back in the Philippines while we were away. :P Actually, we are grateful that our helper agreed to come back to work for us and was willing to wait a year for us to return from overseas. I am terribly relieved that I need not train a new domestic helper from scratch.
Today, we spent the morning at the Honda and Toyota showroom looking for the right car to buy. Looks like it'll be a long process since we have not even decided yet whether to get a sedan or a MPV. Or a hybrid car or a conventional car. So, this is going to take us a long time.
Alright, off to do more unpacking while the kids are asleep. It's going to be another long day tomorrow. We'll be going to Mazda and Nissan next.

Sesame Street - R Rated?!?
OK, everyone I know grew up watching Sesame Street. Now, they are saying that the earlier episodes of Sesame Street are not suitable for the preschoolers of today. Huh?
This makes for interesting read and brings back fond memories of my idle days in front of the television. :)

Remembering Paul Tiang (1963-2007)
Sorry once again for not having posted for a while. Paul Tiang passed away on Saturday, 15th December, and I really wanted to write something up to remember him by.
I first met Paul in December 1999 when I was a speech therapy student doing a clinical placement at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). Paul was a speech therapy assistant with the speech therapy department there. Coincidentally, Paul lived only one bus-stop away from my parents' place and I frequently travelled on the MRT and bus together with Paul on my way home from work. Our travelling time home took us about an hour and having Paul around made these trips during rush hour traffic much more bearable. It was during these trips that we would talk about everything under the sun. Paul would fill me in on the gossip at work and in TTSH. We talked about our families, and Paul would tell me all about his little girl, Andrea. Paul was quick-witted with a great sense of humour. With the many things that Paul could talk about, Paul was very entertaining and it was such a great joy talking to him.
I will always remember Paul as the practical joker. I had frequently fallen victim to Paul's pranks, which he would carry out when I least expected them. As I mentioned earlier, Paul had a fantastic sense of humour and he never failed to make me laugh with his unexpected and candid observations of the people and things happening around him. He also always had interesting and humourous "theories" about what he observed.
I will also rememeber Paul as a very helpful and generous person. He would always go out of his way to help those whom he considers as friends. Never one to be stingy on himself and his family, Paul knew how to take care of his family well. He would not hesitate to catch a cab when travelling with his wife and daughter, but taking the bus instead, when travelling alone.
I will also remember Paul, the singer. Paul had a great voice and he would not hesitate to break into a song after clearing his throat.
Unfortunately, Paul's health seemed to deteriorate gradually and Paul left TTSH at the end of 2002. After Paul left TTSH, we ceased contact with each other even though I lived only a few blocks away (I had gotten married and my new apartment was just within walking distance from Paul's neighbourhood). I did see Paul a few times after that, mainly when I was driving in or out of my estate, and Paul would be walking home from the bus-stop.
Our paths crossed again this year, albeit briefly. I remember driving past the bus-stop, on my way to work at Alexandra Hospital (AH) when I saw someone wearing a bright, neon yellow t-shirt, standing at the bus-stop. It was impossible not to notice that extremely bright t-shirt. It was Paul. A few weeks later, I decided to give Paul a call because we were looking for a speech therapy assistant at AH. Paul's health had improved over the years after he left TTSH and he was really excited at the prospect of working as a therapy assistant again. Paul applied for the job and got it. Paul's first day at work was my last day of work at AH. And that was the last time I saw Paul. We did, however, correspond via sms on a few occasions and by phone on one occasion, after I gave birth to DD.
On 15th December, I opened my inbox and found an email from an ex-colleague at AH. It was very kind of her to inform me of Paul's passing just a few hours later. Paul had lost the battle after spending 9 days in the Intensive Care Unit at Changi Hospital.
Paul, wherever you are, I know that you are now in a better place. I will always remember the Paul who always made me laugh, and the Paul who was always generous and helpful towards his friends. It was a pleasure to have known you, Paul.

Book Alert!

I am SO proud of my Aunty Clarice (my Dad's youngest sister), seen above. She has a heart of gold. Here is her book (her second book to be published), which is one of the few fortune books to be published in English, and with full colour and professional photography too. I think this book will make an interesting read, so do buy a copy for yourself or for someone else who will enjoy it. :) Here are some excerpts from her press release:
"Your Fortune in 2008 follows the success of Clarice Georgia Victoria Chan’s earlier release – Your Fortune in 2007 – and demystifies the customs and principles surrounding lunar New Year, helping you can get the most out of 2008. Not only will you discover how the “elements” of the year can benefit you, you’ll also learn which New Year traditions should be observed and when, annual and month-by-month zodiac predictions for success in all areas of your life – including love, health and wealth, plus how to use the ancient Chinese art of feng shui to enhance your living and working environment.
With more detail than ever before, this year’s release offers specific suggestions to make the year of the Yang Earth Rat your most auspicious yet! You’ll learn:
v How your personal zodiac will interact with The Grand Duke Jupiter of 2008.
v Traditions and preparations related to Chinese New Year.
v Auspicious dates and times to schedule your first Chinese New Year outing.
v Auspicious dates and times for opening a business in 2008.
v How to understand the Trinity Stars – Fu, Lu and Shou Xing.
v Why the White Tiger Festival is so important.
v The annual Flying Stars Analysis for 2008.
v Feng shui fixes for your home and workplace.
v Your personal lunar zodiac “Big Picture” for 2008, plus month-by-month predictions.
v Your personal zodiac’s relationship with other signs – including friends and enemies.
v How to celebrate the lunar Valentine’s Day.
v The characteristics of your lunar love zodiac and compatibility with other signs.
v Lunar love predictions for 2008.
Good luck or bad luck. When? How? Why? These questions have encouraged Clarice Georgia Victoria Chan to search for further meaning in life through an in-depth study of metaphysics, vibrational healing and divination. To discover her findings and learn how to make the upcoming obstacles and triumphs of 2008 work for you, ensure you pick up a copy of Your Fortune in 2008 for yourself or a loved one today."
